Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report observations to nursing staff
- Provide compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities
- Follow care plans and document care accurately and timely in the resident chart
- Adhere to infection control practices and facility safety policies to protect residents and staff
Qualifications
- Certified GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or equivalent certification in the state
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Comfortable working with older adults and demonstrating patience, empathy, and respect
- Ability to pass required background checks and health screenings (TB, immunizations) per facility policy
- Prior experience in long-term care or assisted living is a plus but not always required
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred; completion of an approved GNA/CNA training program required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and common chronic conditions
- Skilled in safe resident transfers, positioning, and mobility assistance
- Strong observational skills for reporting changes in resident status
- Good communication and teamwork skills with residents, families, and staff
- Basic charting and documentation abilities
- Time management and prioritization in a fast-paced care environment
