Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality therapeutic interventions under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients regain mobility and independence
- Assist with treatment plans, implementing therapeutic exercises, gait training, and functional activities
- Monitor and document patient progress accurately and communicate changes to the therapy team
- Ensure a safe environment by following proper body mechanics and assisting with transfers and equipment use
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and strategies to support recovery
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care
- Maintain professional compliance with facility policies, infection control, and documentation standards
Qualifications
- Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in New Jersey or eligible to be licensed
- Graduation from an accredited PTA program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
- Demonstrated clinical skills in therapeutic exercise, transfers, and gait training
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care
- Credentialing and onboarding completed prior to start date (facility-specific requirements may apply)
Education
- Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, and mobility training
- Skilled in patient assessment, documentation, and progress reporting
- Comfortable using common rehabilitation equipment and assistive devices
- Knowledge of safety procedures, infection control, and proper body mechanics
- Ability to teach and motivate patients and families with clear, compassionate communication
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) documentation is a plus
