Roles & Responsibilities
- Dispense medications accurately and safely, verifying prescriptions and dosing
- Counsel patients and caregivers on medication use, side effects and adherence
- Collaborate with providers and care teams to optimize medication therapy
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws
- Manage inventory and medication storage to support uninterrupted patient care
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help implement best practices
- Administer or assist with immunizations and other patient-facing clinical services where authorized
- Support and mentor pharmacy technicians and staff to build a strong local team
Qualifications
- Active Pharmacist license in Alaska or ability to obtain licensure prior to start
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- DEA registration as required for controlled substance dispensing, or ability to obtain
- Excellent communication and patient counseling skills, with strong attention to detail
- Prior retail, hospital or community pharmacy experience preferred (1+ year preferred)
Education
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics and drug interactions
- Familiarity with pharmacy information systems and electronic medication records
- Understanding of federal and state pharmacy regulations and controlled substance handling
- Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a smaller or remote community setting
- Customer service mindset with the ability to build rapport with patients and providers
