Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and sterile instruments so each procedure runs smoothly
• Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure instrument counts are accurate and documented
• Perform setup and breakdown of OR rooms efficiently between cases
• Collaborate with nurses, anesthesiologists and surgical teams to provide excellent patient care
• Respond to on-call requests promptly and professionally when called back to duty
• Complete required competency exams and specialty checklists to demonstrate proficiency

Qualifications

• Current surgical technologist credentials or equivalent as required by state or facility
• BLS certification (required)
• DCI/BVP certification (required)
• Willingness to accept on-call and call-back assignments
• Successful completion of background checks, physical/health statement and drug screening
• Up-to-date immunizations and occupational health requirements (COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, TB testing or chest x-ray, Varicella, Tdap)
• Ability to pass Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam
• License/certificate verification per facility policy

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of operating room workflow and sterile field principles
• Proficiency with surgical instrument identification and handling
• Accurate instrument and sponge counting procedures
• Clear, calm communication and teamwork in high-pressure situations
• Familiarity with surgical equipment setup and safety protocols
• Detail-oriented documentation and adherence to infection control standards
• Adaptability to rotating shifts and rapid case turnover
