Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate postoperative and orthopedic nursing care for surgical patients
- Independently manage an assigned patient load (expected to manage up to 5 patients)
- Perform thorough assessments, monitor vital signs, and identify clinical changes promptly
- Administer medications, manage pain regimens, and evaluate patient responses
- Carry out dressing changes, aspirations, and other routine orthopedic procedures
- Document accurately and timely in Meditech EMR to maintain high-quality records
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia, physical therapy, and multidisciplinary teams
- Educate patients and families on postoperative care, mobility, and discharge planning
- Promote patient safety, fall prevention, and infection control practices
Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible for practice in Colorado (required for travel assignments)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience as indicated in the posting
- Demonstrated surgical unit and/or orthopedic patient experience
- Ability to independently manage a patient assignment of up to 5 patients
- Experience with Meditech EMR (documenting and charting in Meditech)
- Current BLS (and other facility-required certifications) or willingness to obtain prior to start
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (diploma, ADN, or BSN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong orthopedic and postoperative nursing knowledge
- Pain management techniques and experience with pain control protocols
- Wound care and dressing change proficiency
- Assessment skills for early recognition of postoperative complications
- Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced surgical unit
- Proficiency documenting in Meditech EMR and following unit policies
