Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor med-surg patients, including post-op orthopedic and bariatric care
• Develop and implement individualized care plans focused on safe recovery and patient comfort
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies with attention to safety and accuracy
• Operate and safely use Hoyer lifts, CPM devices, and other unit equipment
• Document care clearly and promptly in the EMR and communicate changes to the team
• Coordinate with surgeons, therapists, and interdisciplinary staff to support smooth transitions of care
• Educate patients and families on recovery plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
• Support unit workflow and step into charge duties when needed to maintain quality care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (compact or state-appropriate) preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med-Surg experience in a hospital setting
• Current BLS certification required
• Experience with orthopedics, bariatrics, or medical oncology is a strong plus
• Comfortable using Hoyer lifts, CPM devices, and standard EMR systems
• Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-centered care mindset

Knowledge & Skills

• Med-surgical nursing best practices and post-operative care
• Orthopedic surgery recovery protocols (knees, hips, shoulders) and bariatric patient handling
• Patient assessment, care planning, and safe medication administration
• EMR documentation, code cart familiarity, and standard unit procedures
• Safe operation of Hoyer lifts and CPM equipment
• Ability to manage patient ratios of roughly 5-6:1 while prioritizing safety
• Effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and clear patient communication
