Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity nursing care for pediatric patients in the PICU, ensuring safety and comfort
- Manage ventilators and respiratory support, adjusting settings and monitoring patient response
- Perform hemodynamic and ICP monitoring and interpret data to guide care
- Execute procedures including IV starts, catheterization, and central line dressing changes with precision
- Deliver tracheostomy care, tube feeding placement and management, and support during LPs when needed
- Document patient care accurately and timely in Cerner and use Alaris pumps for medication administration
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists and techs to develop care plans
- Mentor and educate families and junior staff on procedures, care plans, and bedside safety
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure (required for clinical practice in the assignment state)
- PALS certification (listed as a must-have)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (as listed) with at least 1 year of PICU experience preferred per unit requirements
- Comfort and experience with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, ICP monitoring and pediatric critical care procedures
- Familiarity with Cerner documentation and Alaris pump medication administration
- Ability to float to Pediatrics and NICU when needed and work collaboratively in a dynamic unit
Knowledge & Skills
- Pediatric intensive care knowledge and bedside assessment skills
- Ventilator management and respiratory support techniques
- Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- ICP monitoring familiarity
- IV starts, central line dressing changes, and catheter skills
- Tube feeding placement and management
- Competency with Cerner electronic documentation
- Experience with Alaris infusion pumps
- Comfort working in a 1:1 to 1:2 PICU ratio and adapting to stepdown workflows
