Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients and prioritize care on a busy Med Surg Ortho Spine unit, keeping safety first
• Administer medications, treatments, and post-op care following established protocols
• Operate and monitor traction devices and support orthopedic care needs
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Meditech EMR
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with surgeons, therapists, and support staff
• Educate patients and families on total joint and spine procedures, recovery, and precautions
• Advocate for patient needs and contribute to positive outcomes and discharge planning
• Support a compassionate, team-focused culture by mentoring peers and communicating clearly

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (Kansas or compact license preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Med-Surg nursing (orthopedic experience a plus)
• Familiarity with Meditech or other electronic medical record systems
• Experience or comfort with traction equipment, total joint, and spine patient care
• Current BLS required; ACLS and orthopedic-focused certifications preferred
• Outgoing team player with strong communication and patient education skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of medical-surgical and orthopedic nursing principles
• Hands-on skill with traction equipment and total joint/spine post-op care
• Comfortable using Meditech EMR for documentation and orders
• Strong patient assessment, medication administration, and wound care skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a 6:1 patient ratio
• Excellent teamwork, delegation, and bedside communication skills
