Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care to acute care patients, making a real impact on patient outcomes
- Operate, troubleshoot, and optimize ventilators and respiratory equipment with confidence
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpret results to guide therapy
- Assess patients, develop respiratory care plans, and adjust treatments as needed
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams — physicians, nurses, and therapists — to deliver coordinated care
- Educate patients and families on breathing treatments, home oxygen, and discharge plans
- Document interventions and patient responses accurately and promptly in the medical record
Qualifications
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) — required
- Minimum 2 years of clinical respiratory therapy experience (as listed in the job details)
- Active state respiratory care license or eligibility to obtain licensure in Tennessee
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Comfortable with ventilator management and critical care respiratory protocols
- Strong teamwork, communication, and clinical assessment skills
Education
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or completion of an accredited respiratory care program
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation management and weaning strategies
- Airway management, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- ABG interpretation and ventilator parameter adjustment
- Familiarity with respiratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Patient assessment, critical thinking, and care plan development
- Clear communication with multidisciplinary teams and patient education
