Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med-surg nursing care with a focus on post-operative orthopedic patients
• Administer and monitor blood transfusions safely and according to policy
• Manage IVs and central line care/maintenance, ensuring site integrity and infection prevention
• Closely monitor patients and document findings in Medhost (transitioning to Meditech) using clear, timely charting
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Float between MS2 and MS3 as needed, maintaining continuity and quality of care across units
• Prioritize and manage a patient assignment (approximate 5:1 ratio) to ensure patient safety and experience
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, discharge plans, and self-care instructions

Qualifications

• Active RN license (Tennessee or compact license recommended) — travel RN credentials preferred
• Minimum 2 years of med-surg nursing experience, including post-operative orthopedic care
• BLS required; ACLS preferred but not mandatory
• Experience with blood transfusions, IV/central line maintenance, and standard med-surg procedures
• Comfortable floating between MS2 and MS3 and working with a 5:1 patient ratio
• Ability to use point-of-care equipment (Pyxis, COWs, Welch Allyn vital signs) and electronic documentation systems

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med-surg clinical judgment and post-op orthopedic care knowledge
• Proficiency with Medhost and readiness to transition to Meditech
• Skilled in IV/central line care, blood transfusion protocols, and safe medication administration
• Familiarity with Pyxis systems, Computer on Wheels (COW), and vital sign monitoring devices
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education skills
• Adaptability to unit-specific workflows and floating between similar med-surg units
