Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients
- Monitor maternal and fetal status using electronic fetal monitoring and clinical assessment
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe deliveries
- Support and coach patients and families through labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care
- Respond rapidly and effectively to obstetric emergencies and neonatal stabilization needs
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and manage labor interventions per protocol
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Participate in unit quality improvement, safety initiatives, and contribute to a positive team culture
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Tennessee or compact RN licensure accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required
- Fetal monitoring competency and experience with electronic fetal monitoring
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and emergency response skills
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education abilities
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of maternal and fetal physiology and labor progression
- Proficiency interpreting fetal heart rate tracings and managing maternal hemodynamics
- Skilled in labor support techniques, pain management, and postpartum care
- Comfortable with high-acuity situations and rapid decision-making
- Familiarity with common OB medications, surgical prep, and neonatal resuscitation
