Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients in the PCU/stepdown setting, providing expert telemetry and cardiac monitoring
- Administer medications and IV therapy safely, including titratable drips such as nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and milrinone
- Respond rapidly as part of the Rapid Response Team to stabilize patients and support the team
- Perform and interpret telemetry strips and collaborate with remote tele-monitor techs for patient safety
- Document clear, timely notes in EPIC to support continuity of care and interdisciplinary communication
- Provide compassionate pre- and post-procedural care for cardiac cath, pacemaker, ablation, and other interventions
- Float to adjacent PCU floors as needed while maintaining high standards of care and teamwork
- Support unit workflow alongside CNAs, IV team, respiratory therapy, and in-house pharmacy to optimize patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Washington State or a Compact Nurse Licensure Compact license
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care or PCU/stepdown nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA); NIHSS required
- Comfort with telemetry monitoring and experience reading strips
- Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and managing common drips
- Ability to float to other PCU units and adapt to a busy, high-turnover environment
- Successful completion of unit-specific orientation including 12 hours on-unit with a preceptor and EPIC training as needed
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN preferred but not required; ADN or diploma nurses are welcome to apply
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry and cardiac monitoring expertise
- IV therapy and infusion/drip management
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical record for charting and handoffs
- Rapid assessment and critical thinking for CVA/TIA, STEMI/NSTEMI, ACS, CHF, respiratory failure, DKA, and other acute conditions
- Familiarity with peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) care is a plus
- Strong teamwork and communication within multidisciplinary teams (RT, pharmacy, IV team, CNAs)
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, high patient turnover setting
