Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
- Coordinate and direct nursing care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members for quality, cost-effective care
- Serve as a resource for clinical questions and support colleagues when needed
- Apply age-specific and culturally competent care for patients from birth to elderly
- Perform and interpret basic diagnostic tests (EKG) and administer medications and treatments
- Document nursing care accurately and maintain required competencies
- Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the charge nurse
Qualifications
- Current Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Completed nursing education program from an NLN‑approved institution
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Ability to pass and maintain position-specific competencies
- Preferred: at least 1 year of healthcare experience as an RN
- Comfortable with medication administration, patient assessment and basic EKG skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and computer/office equipment proficiency
Education
- Graduation from an NLN‑approved nursing program (diploma or associate degree acceptable)
- Additional certifications or training as required for clinical competencies
Knowledge & Skills
- Nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation
- Care management and continuity of care across the patient journey
- Basic nursing skills including medication administration and documentation
- Interpretation of diagnostic tests and basic EKG knowledge
- Cultural competency and age-specific care considerations
- Familiarity with medical terminology and standard office/medical equipment
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
