Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
• Coordinate and direct nursing care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members for quality, cost-effective care
• Serve as a resource for clinical questions and support colleagues when needed
• Apply age-specific and culturally competent care for patients from birth to elderly
• Perform and interpret basic diagnostic tests (EKG) and administer medications and treatments
• Document nursing care accurately and maintain required competencies
• Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the charge nurse

Qualifications

• Current Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Completed nursing education program from an NLN‑approved institution
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Ability to pass and maintain position-specific competencies
• Preferred: at least 1 year of healthcare experience as an RN
• Comfortable with medication administration, patient assessment and basic EKG skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills and computer/office equipment proficiency

Education

• Graduation from an NLN‑approved nursing program (diploma or associate degree acceptable)
• Additional certifications or training as required for clinical competencies

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Care management and continuity of care across the patient journey
• Basic nursing skills including medication administration and documentation
• Interpretation of diagnostic tests and basic EKG knowledge
• Cultural competency and age-specific care considerations
• Familiarity with medical terminology and standard office/medical equipment
• Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
