Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night shifts, 4x12-hour: 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM (typical night block). 36- or 48-hour block options available. Orientation requires some day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) prior to night assignment. Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period. On-call as needed; scheduling per unit needs.

Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional respiratory care across med/surg, ICU/stepdown, and ED settings
- Manage and troubleshoot ventilators (we use Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton T1, V30 and Avea)
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and adjust care plans accordingly
- Deliver oxygen therapy, BiPAP, CPAP, heated high-flow (HFNC) and other advanced modalities
- Perform airway management, suctioning, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary hygiene
- Administer respiratory medications and manage specialized therapies like vest/MetaNeb/PAP
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC — charting experience is required
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Respond rapidly to emergencies, assist with extubations, and support proning protocols
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care, device use, and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Active NC state Respiratory Therapist license (as listed) or appropriate state licensure/eligibility
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS required; NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory care experience in ER, Adult ICU, Med/Surg or ICU/Stepdown
- EPIC experience required (unit charting system proficiency)
- Able to work night shifts and meet weekend/on-call requirements
- Travelers accepted — first-time travelers welcome; locals accepted
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred) or completion of an accredited respiratory care program
- Completion of required clinical training and state credentialing
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced ventilator management and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Airway management: oral/nasal airways, extubation, trach care and suctioning
- Skilled in ABG interpretation and bedside decision-making
- Proficient with BiPAP, CPAP, heated high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and nebulizer systems
- Experience with specialty equipment: Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton T1, V30, Avea, Omni-labs, ABL90
- Medication delivery systems and inhaled therapies including nitric oxide management
- Pulmonary hygiene techniques including vest therapy, MetaNeb and PAP therapy
- Bronchoscopy exposure preferred and helpful troubleshooting skills for high pressure alarms
- Strong documentation skills in EPIC and effective interdisciplinary communication
