Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert progressive care nursing for telemetry and medically complex patients on the PCU
• Perform and interpret EKG monitoring and complete EKG competency exam (must pass)
• Use the NIH Stroke Scale to assess and document stroke-related changes promptly
• Administer medications, IV therapies and titrated drips within your scope of practice
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to create and update individualized care plans
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure continuity of care
• Float between like units as needed to meet facility staffing requirements
• Support safe handoffs, patient advocacy and family communication during transitions

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of North Carolina (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience (PCU/telemetry experience strongly preferred)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Must pass the facility EKG exam with no exceptions
• Comfortable with PCU ratios (typically 1:4-5) and night-shift workflow
• Willingness to work every-other-weekend and float within scope
• First-time travel RNs are welcome

Education

• Active RN licensure required (Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing commonly accepted; BSN preferred where available)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm recognition / EKG proficiency
• Progressive care nursing principles and patient assessment
• NIH Stroke Scale application and stroke recognition
• Familiarity with Epic charting and electronic health records
• Strong critical thinking, prioritization and communication skills
• Ability to work independently on night shift and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with IV/drip management and titration
