Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate basic nursing care and assistance with activities of daily living to acute care patients
- Monitor patient status and report changes to nursing staff promptly
- Assist with safe patient transfers, mobility, and positioning
- Follow care plans, infection control procedures, and facility policies consistently
- Complete accurate documentation and facility-specific skills checklists
- Support a calm, therapeutic environment — especially when working with inpatient psychiatry patients
- Participate in orientation and training to maintain required competencies
Qualifications
- Current CNA certification required; submit verification with application
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years' experience in an acute care setting
- Experience in inpatient psychiatry preferred
- Ability to complete facility-specific skills checklist prior to shift
- Reliable, professional, and patient-focused with strong communication skills
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CNA certification (required)
- BLS certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient safety, infection control, and basic clinical procedures
- Documentation best practices and accurate charting
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Ability to recognize and escalate clinical concerns
- Comfort working in acute care and behavioral health environments
- Team collaboration and effective communication with multidisciplinary staff
