Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate speech, language, cognition, and swallowing function using evidence-based tools
- Develop individualized treatment plans that aim for measurable progress and meaningful outcomes
- Deliver skilled therapy sessions and adjust approaches based on patient response and goals
- Document clinical findings, progress notes, and discharge plans accurately and timely
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, therapists, and families to coordinate care and support
- Educate patients and caregivers with practical strategies to carry over gains into daily life
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to quality improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Current Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license or ability to obtain prior to start
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred or equivalent clinical credential
- Experience providing assessment and treatment in inpatient/outpatient settings preferred
- Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with common assessment tools
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to work independently in a contract role
- Current BLS/CPR certification as required by facility (or willing to obtain)
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders (ASHA-accredited program preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with standardized and functional assessment tools for speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
- Skilled in evidence-based therapy techniques and goal-directed treatment planning
- Solid documentation practices and familiarity with electronic health records
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and advocate for patient-centered care
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and staff
