Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in an acute inpatient setting
Provide professional consultations and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers to plan safe discharges
Perform swallowing assessments including FEES and make evidence-based treatment recommendations
Document evaluations and progress clearly and timely, contributing to interdisciplinary care plans
Operate and maintain specialty equipment such as endoscopes, VitalStim, augmentative communication devices, and monitoring devices

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
Current BLS/HCP CPR certification required
Completion of a FEES course required; must complete within six months of hire if not already completed
Preferred: Minimum 1 year acute care SLP experience, prior FEES clinical experience, and MBS ImP experience

Education

Licensure and certification as listed under qualifications (Hawaii SLP license, ASHA certification)
FEES course completion or commitment to complete within six months

Knowledge & Skills

Skilled in swallowing evaluation and treatment, including FEES and MBS ImP
Experience with adult speech, language, and cognitive evaluations and therapy
Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies and devices
Comfortable using clinical equipment such as endoscopes, VitalStim, wall suction, and oxygen/pulse oximetry
Strong interdisciplinary communication and documentation skills in a fast-paced acute care environment
