Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and perform high-quality diagnostic scans following established protocols
Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document doses accurately
Operate and troubleshoot equipment including gamma cameras, dose calibrators, survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
Monitor and maintain equipment condition and cleanliness; report maintenance needs promptly
Ensure radiation safety and adhere to safety protocols and required PPE use
Collaborate and communicate findings and patient information with radiologists and physicians
Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff and learners
Provide compassionate care for patients of all ages, adapting approach to developmental and clinical needs

Qualifications

Current Hawai'i license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (required)
Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
Radiopharmaceutical administration experience and knowledge of nuclear medicine physics
Familiarity with radiation safety practices and use of survey meters and leaded protective equipment
Strong communication and critical thinking skills; able to work independently in a single-tech rural setting
One (1) year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred; position suitable for new graduates and experienced technologists

Education

Current Hawai'i Nuclear Medicine Technologist licensure
BLS/HCP certification
Formal training or certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology (as required for state licensure)

Knowledge & Skills

Nuclear Medicine procedures and diagnostic imaging
Radiation safety and monitoring
Gamma camera operation and imaging protocols
Dose calibrator and well counter use
Thyroid uptake probe operation
Patient preparation and age-appropriate care
Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
Clear communication with physicians and radiologists
