Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform patient education around radiation therapy and concurrent chemo-radiation with compassion and clarity
• Start peripheral IVs and manage IV therapy/infusions safely and efficiently
• Triage patient calls and manage in-basket communications to prioritize care
• Assist providers during consults and follow-up visits to ensure seamless clinic flow
• Coordinate chemotherapy alongside radiation treatments and monitor for tolerance and side effects
• Identify, manage and escalate oncologic emergencies and medication-related issues promptly
• Support physicians during nasopharyngeal scopes and other procedures as needed
• Document care accurately in Epic and communicate plan changes to the team

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of clinical experience required (3+ years preferred)
• BLS (AHA) required (AHA classroom/valid; HeartCode NOT accepted)
• Chemo certification preferred; OCN and ONS/ONCC credentials are a plus
• Demonstrated ability to start IVs and provide wound care (required)
• Experience or strong interest in outpatient oncology / radiation oncology (training available)
• Comfort working in a fast-paced clinic supporting two physicians and collaborating with an RN partner
• Familiarity with Epic charting is preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Starting peripheral IVs and IV therapy/infusions
• Wound care and post-surgical care knowledge
• Patient and family education skills specific to oncology care
• Triage skills and telephone/in-basket management
• Understanding of radiation safety precautions and external beam radiation workflows
• Medication administration, including antiemetics, corticosteroids, antitumor agents and IV push narcotics
• Symptom management for common oncology-related issues (nausea, mucositis, neuropathy, skin changes)
• Familiarity with oncologic emergencies (tumor lysis, sepsis, hemorrhage, spinal cord compression)
• Experience with PCA pumps, transdermal patches, and neutropenic precautions
