Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert labor and delivery nursing care, supporting safe births and positive outcomes
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring and act on abnormal patterns
• Start and maintain IVs, manage infusion pumps and administer medications including magnesium sulfate and oxytocin
• Assist and circulate for cesarean sections and support post-op recovery
• Perform neonatal delivery room care (APGAR assessment, radiant warmer management, cord sampling)
• Conduct triage and sterile vaginal exams when indicated; manage triage workflow for obstetrical patients
• Support postpartum care including fundus checks, episiotomy/incision care, and breastfeeding support
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (pharmacy, PT, RT, social services) to coordinate patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Proven IV start skills and experience with infusion pump management
• Comfortable floating to other units within the OSU organization as needed
• Preferred: AWHONN Advanced, NCC C-EFM, previous travel experience

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• External and internal fetal monitoring (EFM/IUPC) and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• NST (Non-Stress Test) administration and interpretation
• Cesarean section assistance and recovery management
• Neonatal delivery room skills including APGAR scoring and thermoregulation
• Medication administration in obstetrics (magnesium sulfate, Pitocin/oxytocin)
• Phlebotomy, IV therapy, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC) and infusion pump use
• Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and provide emergency cardiac care in maternal patients
• Skilled in triage, sterile vaginal exams, and management of postpartum hemorrhage
