Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for high-risk perinatal patients
• Perform sterile vaginal exams (SVE) as a mandatory skill for shift work
• Monitor and interpret fetal status using external (and internal when indicated) fetal monitoring
• Deliver neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR assessment, neonatal resuscitation, and radiant warmer management
• Administer and monitor medications commonly used in perinatal care (e.g., magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, oxytocin) and manage hemorrhage/shock situations
• Assist with and circulate for cesarean sections, recover C-sections, and support operative vaginal deliveries when needed
• Support postpartum couplet care with CNA collaboration and provide lactation/breastfeeding support and discharge teaching
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members (CRNAs, surgical techs, HUCs, respiratory, pharmacy) to ensure safe, timely patient care

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience (unit recommends experience in facilities with 200+ deliveries but will consider 100–200 delivery experience)
• Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Monitoring
• Hard requirement: ability to perform Sterile Vaginal Exam (SVE)
• Experience with Epic charting system
• Comfort and experience with high-acuity perinatal care, including L&D management and neonatal resuscitation
• Willingness to float to Postpartum and work weekends as required; clinicians may be called off for 1, 12-hour shift per 2-week period

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor & Delivery management and sterile vaginal exams (SVE)
• External and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and calibration
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessment
• Administration of blood products and IV therapy (starting/maintaining IVs, phlebotomy)
• Management of perinatal medications: magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, oxytocin, terbutaline
• Experience with Epic electronic charting
• Ability to assist in operative deliveries, circulate for C-section, and recover post-op patients
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and high-risk maternal conditions (pre-eclampsia, HELLP, etc.)
