Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients' nutritional needs and develop individualized nutrition care plans that support medical goals
• Provide medical nutrition therapy and counseling to patients in a correctional healthcare setting
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
• Oversee therapeutic and general menu planning to meet clinical and regulatory standards
• Document nutrition assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and facility staff on nutrition-related topics and best practices
• Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and safety while working within a secure facility environment

Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required
• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field required; completion of ACEND-accredited supervised practice preferred
• Active ability to practice in California (state licensure or eligibility) preferred
• Clinical and institutional nutrition experience preferred, especially with medical or correctional populations
• Strong documentation skills and comfort using electronic health records
• Willingness to undergo facility-required background checks, security screening, and onboarding clearances

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
• Completion of accredited supervised practice program
• Registered Dietitian (RD) credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Medical nutrition therapy and clinical assessment skills
• Menu planning and therapeutic diet familiarity
• Clear, compassionate patient education and counseling
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and communication
• Accurate documentation and charting in electronic systems
• Understanding of safety, confidentiality, and security protocols in a correctional facility
