Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess clients' recreational needs and strengths to create person-centered treatment plans
• Design and implement therapeutic recreation groups and activities that support mental health goals
• Lead meaningful skill-building sessions that promote coping, socialization, and independence
• Monitor progress and adjust interventions to maximize client outcomes
• Document interventions and outcomes accurately and promptly to maintain continuity of care
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate holistic treatment and ensure safety
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and follow facility policies for security and compliance
• Provide education and support to clients and families about therapeutic recreation strategies

Qualifications

• Valid credential or license in Recreational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation (required)
• Experience or strong interest in Mental Health practice, ideally including group facilitation
• Comfort working in a correctional or secure facility environment is highly desirable
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Clear background check and required health screenings per facility policy
• Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related human services field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Therapeutic recreation assessment and treatment planning
• Group facilitation and activity adaptation to meet varied abilities
• Behavioral management and crisis de-escalation techniques
• Clinical documentation and outcome tracking
• Cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care practices
• Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
