Optometrist
Location: Delano, CA
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Day)
Candidate Pay Rate: $91 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive eye exams and vision assessments for patients in a correctional setting
- Diagnose and manage common ocular conditions and make appropriate referrals when needed
- Prescribe and fit corrective lenses and contact lenses, ensuring optimal vision correction
- Provide timely urgent/acute eye care and triage when ocular issues arise
- Document patient encounters clearly and accurately in the medical record
- Collaborate with medical and custody staff to ensure safe, efficient clinic operations
- Maintain infection control, safety protocols, and compliance with facility policies
- Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care within the facility
Qualifications
- Active California optometry license (or eligible to obtain prior to start)
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) or equivalent professional degree
- Current BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain promptly)
- Experience working with diverse patient populations; corrections experience is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks and facility-required clearances
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a multidisciplinary environment
Education
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in refraction, ocular health exams, and contact lens fitting
- Knowledge of ocular disease management and appropriate referral practices
- Comfortable with clinical documentation and electronic medical records
- Strong patient education skills and an empathetic bedside manner
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume clinic while maintaining quality care
- Familiarity with infection control and safety procedures in a clinical/corrections environment
