Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide specialized, compassionate nursing care to neonates in a Level III NICU, including infants from 22 weeks gestation and above
• Manage respiratory support and ventilator settings (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP) to optimize each baby's breathing
• Administer medications and emergency therapies using the Pyxis system, including IV vasopressors, surfactants, and steroids
• Perform and manage invasive lines and catheters such as arterial lines, UACs, and UVCs with attention to safety and infection prevention
• Document accurate, timely patient information in Nationwide Children’s EPIC system to support continuity of care
• Communicate effectively with families and the care team using SBAR to ensure clear handoffs and coordinated care
• Assist with feeding tube placement/management (oral/NG/NJ) and GI care to support growth and nutrition
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners — respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT, radiology, social work and more — to deliver holistic care

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification — required
• Minimum of 1 year of NICU experience, with experience in Level III (and Level IV preferred)
• Demonstrated competency in ventilator management and cardiovascular dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Experience with IV therapy and central/arterial/umbilical catheter care (UAC/UVC) and line management
• Familiarity with Pyxis medication system and EPIC documentation
• Adherence to infection control and isolation precautions
• Flexibility to float to other OSU units as needed and work holiday/night schedules
• Influenza vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal physiology and care for preterm infants (<24-28 weeks)
• Ventilator modes and adjustments (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP)
• Neonatal resuscitation principles and emergency medication administration
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic documentation and Pyxis medication workflows
• Feeding tube placement and enteral feeding management (oral/NG/NJ)
• Infection prevention, PPE use, and isolation precautions
• Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome recognition and care strategies
• Interdisciplinary communication using SBAR and strong family-centered care skills
