Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform independent sterile vaginal exams and triage obstetrical patients with confidence and accuracy
• Monitor fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring and recognize/treat abnormal patterns
• Provide expert labor and delivery care including assisting and circulating for C-sections, forceps/vacuum deliveries, and high-risk deliveries
• Deliver neonatal resuscitation and newborn stabilization in the delivery room, including APGAR assessment and cord sample collection
• Start and maintain IV therapy, administer blood products and critical medications such as magnesium sulfate and oxytocin
• Manage postpartum care for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including hemorrhage response and wound assessment
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Epic to ensure seamless patient care and communication
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams such as PT, Respiratory, Pharmacy, Radiology and Social Services to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to mother-baby as needed to support unit staffing and continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license appropriate for California (pending licenses are not accepted)
• AWHONN Advanced certification is a HARD STOP and must be present for pass screening
• ACLS, BLS (BCLS), and NRP required
• Epic experience required for charting and documentation
• Minimum 1.5 years clinical L&D experience is the hard stop; 2 years preferred, will consider under 2 depending on experience
• Proven ability to perform sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision
• Comfortable working nights and weekends as required by unit needs
• Willingness to float to mother-baby when needed

• Labor & Delivery best practices and triage workflows
• External and internal fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Sterile vaginal exam technique and documentation
• Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and newborn stabilization
• IV therapy, blood product administration and infusion pump management
• C-section assist/circulate and OR protocols
• Postpartum care, breastfeeding/lactation support and newborn assessments
• Use of Epic and familiarity with Meditech as ancillary charting
