Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens accurately and courteously, ensuring proper labeling and chain-of-custody
• Receive patients and orders in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and process samples for testing
• Perform high-complexity testing in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank, and/or microbiology using automated and manual methods
• Analyze and validate test results prior to release, ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance
• Report and document critical results promptly according to policy to support patient safety
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing procedures and interpret QC results to maintain test integrity
• Carry out preventative maintenance, calibration and minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
• Participate in method and instrument evaluations and help implement new testing procedures
• Teach and train new partners and students, sharing best practices and building team competency
• Maintain and expand competency in current procedures and attain competency for new methods

Qualifications

• Current MLT/MLS Generalist Certification OR Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, or M) required
• Qualified to perform high-complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 testing personnel qualifications
• Experience in hematology and blood bank is required
• Proficient with automated and manual testing methods and comfortable using an LIS
• Demonstrated ability to perform quality control, proficiency testing, and critical result reporting
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams

Education

• MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, or M) required
• Completion of an accredited MLT/MLS program or equivalent training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Hematology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Chemistry and Microbiology testing knowledge
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) — order entry, results reporting, QC documentation
• Quality control and proficiency testing procedures and interpretation
• Instrument maintenance, calibration and basic troubleshooting skills
• Specimen collection best practices and chain-of-custody procedures
• Ability to analyze results for validity, accuracy, and clinical significance
