Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare pediatric patients for procedures by completing focused pre-op assessments
- Perform age-appropriate medication administration and verification
- Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families about pre-op instructions
- Coordinate with the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs and on-time case starts
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately in the medical record
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and pediatric-specific care standards
- Participate in orientation, training, and unit-based quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (required)
- Experience or comfort working with pediatric patients and pre-operative workflows (preferred)
- Current BLS required; PALS or pediatric certification highly desirable
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to work collaboratively with surgical teams
- Clear background check and ability to meet facility onboarding requirements
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Pediatric patient assessment and age-appropriate communication
- Familiarity with pre-op processes, medication verification, and consent workflows
- Basic IV/venipuncture skills and medication administration competency
- Accurate clinical documentation in electronic health records
- Teamwork, time management, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced perioperative setting
