Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nutrition assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients
• Design and implement therapeutic meal plans and menu modifications to meet clinical needs
• Counsel and educate patients on nutrition-related issues to improve health outcomes
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other clinical team members to coordinate care
• Document interventions and progress clearly in the electronic health record (Cerner familiarity preferred)
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and CDCR guidelines while maintaining patient dignity and safety
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and nutrition-related programs within the facility

Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required
• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field (ACEND-accredited program preferred)
• Experience or familiarity with CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) environment preferred
• Experience with Cerner or other electronic health records is preferred
• Ability to obtain necessary facility clearances and pass background checks for a correctional setting
• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and patient education skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
• Completion of a supervised practice program (ACEND-accredited) and RD/RDN credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical nutrition assessment and therapeutic diet planning
• Counseling and patient education techniques
• Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for chronic conditions
• Experience with electronic medical records (Cerner experience preferred)
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Familiarity with correctional healthcare protocols and confidentiality requirements
