Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist dentists chairside during procedures with calm, professional support
• Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, ensuring instruments are sterilized and ready
• Manage patient intake and documentation, keeping records accurate and confidential
• Follow infection control and safety protocols to protect patients and staff
• Support mental health-focused dental care by working respectfully with a diverse patient population
• Communicate clearly with the care team to coordinate patient schedules and treatment plans
• Complete orientation and facility-specific training to meet institutional standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) credential (California preferred)
• Previous dental assisting experience; mental health or correctional setting experience is a plus
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
• Ability to complete a 2-week orientation and comply with facility onboarding requirements
• Willingness to work in a correctional facility and meet required security/background checks
• Professional communication skills and a patient-centered approach

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited dental assisting program
• Active RDA license (California preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Chairside assisting techniques and familiarity with common dental instruments
• Strong knowledge of infection control and sterilization procedures
• Comfortable with patient intake, charting, and maintaining accurate records
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a mental health-focused environment
• Basic radiography skills if certified, or willingness to obtain certification
• Good organizational skills and attention to clinical detail
