Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia and provide compassionate, age-appropriate care
• Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and airway status closely and intervene promptly when needed
• Administer medications and treatments per orders and document accurately in the chart
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the broader care team to ensure smooth transitions
• Educate families on post-anesthesia care, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
• Maintain a safe, calm PACU environment and support throughput while prioritizing patient safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Massachusetts (or appropriate compact privileges) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia care, especially with pediatric patients, is highly valued
• Comfortable with pediatric assessment, airway management basics, and post-op monitoring
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset to work with families and clinicians

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Diploma)
• BSN preferred but not strictly required

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
• Airway and respiratory observation skills
• IV medication administration and pain management
• Effective clinical documentation and handoff communication
• Ability to remain calm and decisive in fast-paced recovery environments
• Empathy and family-centered care approach
