Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and lead therapeutic recreation programs that promote mental health and well-being
• Assess patient needs and create individualized activity plans with clear goals
• Facilitate group and individual activities that build skills, socialization, and coping strategies
• Document progress and outcomes clearly and professionally
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate recreation goals into treatment plans
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment and follow facility protocols at all times
• Support patient engagement through creative, evidence-informed interventions

Qualifications

• Certified/registered Recreational Therapist or similar credential preferred (for example, CTRS)
• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred
• Experience or strong interest in mental health settings; experience in correctional or institutional settings a plus
• Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility security clearances
• Willingness to attend two-week orientation on the same daytime schedule

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in therapeutic recreation assessment, treatment planning, and progress documentation
• Strong group facilitation and activity leadership skills
• Knowledge of mental health principles and trauma-informed approaches
• Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with clinical staff
• Ability to adapt activities to varying cognitive and physical abilities
• Familiarity with safety protocols and institutional policies
