Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care and supervision for individuals in a correctional behavioral health setting
• Observe and document patient behavior, mood, and response to interventions accurately and timely
• Assist the clinical team with therapeutic activities and implementation of individualized care plans
• Support safety and de-escalation efforts using evidence-based techniques to reduce risk
• Communicate clearly with nursing, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to coordinate care
• Participate in training, shift handoffs, and team meetings to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain professional, confidential records and complete required documentation

Qualifications

• Valid Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in California (active and in good standing)
• Previous experience in behavioral health, psychiatric care, or correctional healthcare preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain during orientation
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility-specific security clearance
• Strong observational, communication, and de-escalation skills
• Reliable, professional, and able to work the listed evening schedule

Education

• Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program or equivalent training
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of psychiatric/behavioral health principles and patient safety practices
• Skill in observation, documentation, and basic clinical interventions
• Ability to follow care plans and contribute to a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Comfort working in a structured correctional facility environment with clear protocols
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work calmly under pressure
• Basic computer skills for electronic documentation
