Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure all instruments are present and functioning for cardiovascular procedures
• Assist surgeons and the perioperative team during cardiovascular operations with precision and calm
• Perform instrument counts, handle specimens correctly, and ensure accurate labeling
• Operate and troubleshoot basic surgical equipment and support technology in the OR
• Document case details and chart in Cerner to maintain clear patient records
• Adapt quickly as a first-to-float technologist, supporting multiple rooms or services as needed
• Participate in orientation and training hours to stay current with unit protocols and safety standards

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA required
• BLS (AHA) required, ACLS (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiovascular Operating Room or similar acute surgical setting
• Experience with Cerner charting systems preferred or required depending on site familiarity
• Willingness to participate in call rotation and float to different perioperative areas
• Ability to complete 12 hours of orientation and integrate smoothly into the OR team

Education

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA (required)
• BSN: Not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical instruments, supplies, and procedures
• Solid sterile technique and infection control practices
• Proficiency with Cerner or similar electronic health record systems
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills under high-stakes situations
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain composed during emergent events
• Familiarity with acute care and perioperative safety protocols
