Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality Stepdown/PCU nursing care for patients with cardiac and neurological diagnoses
• Monitor telemetry continuously and read/interpret ECG strips to detect changes early
• Titrate IV drips per protocol (common meds: Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin) and respond to titration needs
• Troubleshoot CPAP and collaborate with respiratory therapy for patient respiratory support
• Document timely and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
• Float to the ICU when appropriate, bringing stepdown expertise to higher acuity settings
• Work as a positive, team-oriented caregiver during fast-paced admits and discharges
• Complete unit orientation (one 12-hour shift) and demonstrate competency during the skills exam

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required to submit)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (acute care/stepdown/telemetry preferred)
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Proven telemetry and ECG interpretation skills
• Experience titrating drips and managing cardiac medications
• Valid driver’s license at time of submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
• Ability and willingness to float to ICU when needed
• Ability to pass an open-book skills exam during orientation (90% required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Stepdown/PCU and acute cardiac care expertise
• Telemetry monitoring and independent strip interpretation
• ECG interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV drip titration and familiarity with Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin
• EPIC charting proficiency
• CPAP troubleshooting and basic respiratory support knowledge
• Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-centered bedside skills
• Charge nurse familiarity and comfort taking an assignment when needed
