Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and care for MedSurg and Telemetry patients, including post-op ortho and trauma patients
• Titrate and manage drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine safely and per protocol
• Manage PCA pumps and titratable infusions while documenting changes in EPIC
• Monitor telemetry awareness and collaborate with Tele/Monitor Techs to interpret patient status
• Perform hourly rounding and maintain responsiveness to patient needs
• Coordinate admissions and discharges to keep patient flow moving smoothly
• Work as a team player with charge nurses, patient care techs, and support staff to deliver compassionate care
• Follow unit policies and safety procedures, including fingernail/artificial nail policy and use of mechanical lifts

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required (eligible to submit)
• BLS (AHA) certification required at time of submittal
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience preferred
• Comfortable with medication/drip titration (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and PCA pumps
• Driver's license required at submittal; candidates must meet the 50-mile radius rule and may not be concurrently employed PRN/FT/PT with CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities
• Able to pass a unit skills/open-book orientation exam with a minimum score of 90%
• Willingness to float to other MedSurg areas as needed and to work required weekends/holidays

Education

• Active RN licensure required
• BSN preferred but not explicitly required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in EPIC charting and documentation
• Telemetry strip awareness and basic interpretation skills
• Experience with MedSurg and orthopedic patient care, including post-op management
• Skilled in IV medication titration and pump management
• Strong prioritization and time management for high-volume admission/discharge days
• Ability to collaborate with Tele/Monitor Techs and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with mechanical lifts and safe patient handling techniques
• Cultural competency and ability to serve diverse populations; Spanish, Karen, Burmese language skills are a plus
