Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care to ICU patients, including ventilator management and post-CABG care
• Continuously monitor hemodynamics and respond to changes with timely assessment and interventions
• Collaborate closely with intensivists, cardiothoracic teams and multidisciplinary staff to deliver coordinated care
• Perform and document thorough bedside shift reports and updates to the unit whiteboard
• Respond to codes and emergency situations with current ACLS and CPR skills
• Educate patients and families about care plans, procedures and discharge needs with empathy and clarity
• Adhere to unit policies, infection control standards and dress/grooming guidelines while representing the team professionally
• Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement on a Beacon-awarded unit

Qualifications

• Active Texas RN license required (temporary licenses will not be accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU or cardiac ICU experience strongly preferred
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; current CPR certification
• Proven experience with ventilated patients, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-CABG care
• Comfortable working with high-acuity patients including ECMO and heart transplant populations (preferred)
• Meditech experience preferred for documentation
• Professional bedside manner, teamwork, punctuality and ability to participate in bedside shift report
• Willingness to float to other ICUs as needed and to work rotating weekends

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and ICU workflows
• Ventilator management and pulmonary care
• Hemodynamic monitoring and titration of vasoactive medications
• Cardiac post-operative care including CABG and cardiac surgery monitoring
• ECMO familiarity and CVICU-specific skills (preferred)
• ACLS, BLS and proficient CPR technique
• Electronic charting experience (Meditech preferred)
• Strong communication, clinical judgment and teamwork skills
• Professionalism in bedside shift report and patient/family interactions
