Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert neonatal critical care for Level IV NICU patients, managing complex physiology with skill and compassion
• Manage ventilators, tracheostomies and advanced respiratory support (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BIPAP/PEEP, HFNC, high-frequency ventilation) to optimize outcomes
• Safely manage invasive lines and devices including UAC/UVC, central lines, pulmonary artery lines and chest tubes
• Float competently to PICU and CICU and collaborate across units to ensure seamless patient care
• Use Epic for accurate, timely charting and interdisciplinary communication
• Participate in high-risk deliveries and neonatal transport as needed, providing critical hands-on support
• Administer and monitor emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and perform neonatal dosage calculations with precision
• Coach and educate families on developmental care, breastfeeding support and post-discharge needs

Qualifications

• Active California RN license (required)
• AHA BLS (required) and NRP (required)
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a Level IV NICU (explicit requirement)
• Demonstrated competency in ventilator and tracheostomy management, chest tube care, UAC/UVC and central line management
• Comfort and competency floating to PICU and CICU and to other UCSF facilities
• Experience with Epic charting (required)
• COVID-19 vaccine + booster per facility guideline (medical/religious exemptions only)
• STABLE certification preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neonatal critical care and complex neonatal physiology
• Ventilator management and advanced respiratory modalities (ECMO exposure is a plus)
• Umbilical artery/vein catheter and central line management
• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Neonatal medication dosing and emergency medication administration
• Neonatal transport and high-risk delivery support
• Family-centered teaching, developmental care and breastfeeding support
• Epic electronic medical record proficiency
