Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; also 8-hour shifts 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; self-scheduling with every other weekend and holiday

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to adolescents and adults on a locked psychiatric unit
• Build meaningful connections while supporting patients through depression, anxiety, substance use, and other behavioral health challenges
• Lead de-escalation efforts and maintain a calm, safe environment for everyone
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapy, and social work to deliver holistic care
• Complete 15-minute rounds and stay actively involved in every aspect of patient well-being
• Float as a helping hand or provide 1:1 support throughout the hospital when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Dakota or compact license
• BLS certification required; CPI preferred
• Acute or inpatient psychiatric experience strongly preferred
• Strong de-escalation and communication skills
• First-time travelers welcome; adolescent experience a plus
• Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of common psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders
• Ability to work with both adolescent and adult populations on the same shift
• Comfort with a locked unit and familiarity with seclusion and restraint protocols
• Team-oriented mindset with willingness to jump in wherever help is needed
