Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare patients for surgery with thorough pre-operative assessments and compassionate care
Perform and document pre-op teaching to ensure patients and families feel informed and confident
Coordinate with surgical teams, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to streamline the patient journey
Monitor and report patient status, ensuring all safety checks and protocols are completed
Maintain meticulous documentation in the electronic health record for clear communication and continuity

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure — Louisiana license or compact eligibility preferred
Experience in pre-operative nursing or perioperative settings (experience with pre-op assessments a plus)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications a plus
Strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and prioritize patient safety

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Proficient in pre-op assessment, patient education, and pre-surgical preparation
Knowledge of perioperative standards, infection control, and surgical safety checklists
Comfortable using electronic health record systems and documenting care accurately
Excellent interpersonal skills for calming anxious patients and coordinating with surgical teams
Time management and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
