Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU
• Monitor and assess vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress after procedures
• Implement evidence-based nursing interventions and escalate concerns promptly
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with families and the surgical team
• Perform accurate, timely documentation in the patient record
• Participate in safe handoffs and multidisciplinary rounds to ensure continuity of care
• Support a culture of pediatric safety, comfort, and family-centered care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — must be eligible to practice in Missouri
• Experience or clinical comfort in PACU and/or pediatrics preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) highly desirable
• Ability to complete facility orientation and competency validation
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical setting
• Ability to pass background check and required health screenings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred or equivalent clinical experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia recovery principles and practices
• Assessment and management of airway, breathing, circulation, and pain in children
• IV therapy, medication administration, and recovery monitoring
• Family-centered communication and patient education
• Proficient documentation and use of electronic medical records
• Team-oriented approach and effective collaboration with surgical and anesthesia teams
