Roles & Responsibilities

• Advocate for patients by coordinating care across preoperative and postoperative phases
• Serve as the OR circulator: prepare the room, support the sterile field, and ensure smooth workflow during procedures
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative team members to optimize patient safety
• Perform patient assessments, education, and handoffs that keep families informed and comfortable
• Respond to on-call needs and provide dependable perioperative support when called
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital policies and infection control standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Vermont RN or compact licensure accepted when applicable
• Demonstrated experience as an OR Circulator or in perioperative nursing
• Comfortable taking on-call responsibilities and responding as needed
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; CNOR or advanced perioperative certifications are a strong plus
• Excellent communication skills and a patient-centered approach

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (diploma, ADN, or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of perioperative nursing principles and sterile technique
• Strong patient advocacy and bedside manner in pre/postoperative care
• Ability to coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams
• Accurate clinical documentation and time management under variable caseloads
• Familiarity with OR safety protocols, instrumentation flow, and infection prevention
