Roles & Responsibilities

• Compound and dispense prescription medications accurately and safely for retail patients
• Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, dosing, interactions and accuracy
• Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects, storage and adherence when counseling is accepted
• Direct pharmacy technicians and interns; maintain correct pharmacist-to-tech/intern ratios
• Maintain pharmacy records, inventory, and third-party prescription systems with attention to detail
• Implement and follow procedures for controlled substances security and hazardous waste disposal
• Investigate and resolve third-party rejections and report prescription errors per policy
• Support loss-prevention measures and help maximize operational efficiency in the retail setting
• Communicate effectively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care
• Participate in continuing education and quality assurance activities to stay current with pharmacy practice

Qualifications

• California pharmacist license in good standing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college (required)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required)
• Meets federal, state and local regulatory requirements for retail pharmacy practice
• Maintains required continuing education hours annually
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, written and oral communication skills
• Experience supervising or training pharmacy staff and maintaining quality assurance

Education

• BS in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. (ACPE-accredited program required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication compounding and dispensing best practices
• Pharmacy law, regulatory compliance and controlled substance security
• Inventory management and third-party prescription systems
• Medication counseling and patient education
• Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting
• Customer service, loss prevention awareness and quality assurance procedures
