Shift Type: Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays (specific start/end times vary by schedule; may include day, evening and night shifts)
Candidate Pay Rate: $81 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide independent respiratory assessments and implement physician-ordered therapies for patients across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric populations
- Initiate, monitor and manage mechanical ventilation settings and life support systems, adjusting based on ABG results and clinical status
- Perform airway management including emergency intubation, endotracheal and tracheostomy care, suctioning and secure airway maintenance
- Participate as an active member of the resuscitation team, providing manual ventilation and assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Administer and interpret pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry monitoring to support diagnosis and treatment plans
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies, home care techniques and equipment use to promote self-management
- Maintain infection control and equipment sterilization practices and perform basic equipment maintenance
- Support interdisciplinary care by communicating findings, recommending therapy adjustments and collaborating with physicians and nursing staff
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii Respiratory Therapist license (required for applicants)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (desirable)
- Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG sampling/analysis, and airway procedures
- Comfortable providing care for neonatal and pediatric patients
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise clinical judgment in acute care settings
- Strong communication skills for patient/family education and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Flexible availability for shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
Education
- Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program; credentialed RRT or CRTT preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilator setup, monitoring and weaning strategies
- Arterial blood gas interpretation and adjustments to therapy
- Airway management: endotracheal intubation, tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Pulmonary function testing (PFT) and spirometry
- Pulse oximetry monitoring and interpretation of waveforms
- Neonatal and pediatric respiratory care principles
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency ventilation techniques
- Polysomnography and EEG electrode placement basics
- Equipment cleaning, sterilization and basic troubleshooting
- Patient and family education techniques for respiratory disease management
