Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care to ICU patients, continuously assessing and responding to changes
• Manage ventilators, vasoactive drips, and advanced monitoring to stabilize critically ill patients
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—physicians, respiratory therapists, and case managers—to create meaningful care plans
• Respond rapidly to emergencies and participate in code responses and rapid assessments
• Float to acute care floors as needed, bringing ICU expertise to support other units
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and ensure regulatory compliance
• Participate in competency testing and skills checklists to keep clinical skills sharp and current

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Iowa) in good standing
• BLS and ACLS required
• TNCC and NIHSS certifications required
• Successful completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• Must be able to float to acute care floors when needed
• Fit test, current immunizations (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, Varicella), 2-step PPD or IGRA, and negative drug screen per employer policy

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong ICU nursing knowledge: hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and titration of vasoactive meds
• Excellent critical thinking and rapid assessment skills
• Proficient clinical documentation and familiarity with hospital EMR workflows
• Team player with strong communication and collaboration skills
• Comfortable with competency testing and ongoing skills validation
