Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and/or swallowing disorders
Provide professional consultations and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers
Develop and document individualized treatment plans and progress notes to support safe discharge planning
Use clinical devices and technologies such as endoscope/FEES tools, vitalstim, augmentative communication equipment, pulse oximeter, and blood pressure devices
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
Follow infection control and safety protocols while working in an acute care environment

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
Current ASHA certification (required)
Current CPR certification at BLS/HCP level (required)
Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed upon hire, must be finished within six months
Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of SLP experience in an acute care setting
Preferred: Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP
Experience with adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive evaluation and treatment

Knowledge & Skills

Patient assessment, diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning
Interdisciplinary collaboration and discharge planning
Documentation and clinical charting in acute care settings
FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) and adult swallowing evaluation
Use of clinical devices: endoscope, vitalstim, electrolarynx, augmentative communication equipment, pulse oximeter, blood pressure device
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-acuity inpatient environment
