Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered labor and delivery nursing care for high-risk perinatal patients
- Perform and document fetal monitoring (external and internal) and respond to abnormal heart rate patterns
- Conduct sterile vaginal exams (SVE) as a hardstop requirement and assist in triage assessments
- Support newborn care in the delivery room including APGARs, cord sampling, ID/security banding and basic resuscitation
- Assist in cesarean and vaginal deliveries, circulate in C-section cases and support recovery
- Administer and monitor medications including magnesium sulfate, oxytocin, insulin drips and antihypertensives
- Recognize and manage obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia and HELLP
- Collaborate with providers, CRNAs, surgical techs, CNAs and interdisciplinary services for seamless care
Qualifications
- Active RN license (per state requirements) and at least 2 years of clinical experience (per posting)
- Required certifications: BCLS (BLS), ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Monitoring
- Hardstop: ability to perform Sterile Vaginal Exam (SVE)
- Experience with Epic charting (required)
- Comfort with high-acuity, high-volume obstetric settings (ideal experience: facilities with 200+ deliveries/month; 100-200 deliveries considered)
- Willingness to float to Postpartum and work scheduled weekends
Knowledge & Skills
- Labor & Delivery management and high-risk perinatal care
- External and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement and interpretation
- Neonatal resuscitation and newborn thermoregulation
- IV therapy, blood/blood product administration, phlebotomy
- Assisting and circulating for C-section, forceps/vacuum delivery support
- Postpartum/couplet care, breastfeeding/lactation support
- Use of Epic for documentation and charting
- Recognition and management of obstetric emergencies and monitoring of maternal therapies (magnesium, oxytocin, insulin drips)
