Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to Step-Down Unit patients
Closely monitor and assess patients’ cardiac and respiratory status and intervene as needed
Administer medications and evidence-based treatments accurately and safely
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses thoroughly in the EMR
Educate patients and families about care plans, discharge goals, and ongoing needs
Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and participate in rapid response situations

Qualifications

Current RN license in Louisiana (or a Compact RN license if applicable)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
Experience or strong interest in Step-Down Unit (SDU) or telemetry care
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Familiarity with cardiac and respiratory monitoring and interventions
Medication administration and IV therapy competence
Ability to recognize and escalate clinical changes quickly
Comfortable with electronic medical record documentation
Effective patient and family education skills
