Roles & Responsibilities

Perform pre-operative assessments and prepare pediatric patients for procedures with compassion and attention to detail
Collaborate with surgical teams and caregivers to ensure safe handoffs and clear communication
Administer and document pre-op medications and interventions according to protocol
Provide family-centered education and emotional support to young patients and their families
Verify pre-op checklists, consents, and safety measures to maintain high-quality care
Participate in orientation and training to maintain competency in pediatric perioperative best practices

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (state licensure expected — verify Missouri requirements)
Pediatric nursing experience or strong interest in pediatric pre-operative care
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS recommended or preferred
Excellent communication skills with children and families, and ability to work within a surgical team
Current immunizations and any facility-required health clearances

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of pre-operative assessment and pediatric vital sign norms
Skill in patient- and family-centered communication and teaching
Familiarity with surgical safety checklists and pre-op documentation
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced perioperative environment
Comfort working with pediatric populations and age-appropriate care techniques
